This presentation will explore the unique challenges of creating and implementing an infection prevention and control program in a multispecies, high volume veterinary teaching hospital and the importance of recognizing the interconnectedness of human and animal health.

Infection Control Technician

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University

Sabrina Richards is the first veterinary infection preventionist at Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She is working to develop the infection prevention and control program in the Foster Small Animal Hospital. She has an MPH in epidemiology with a specialization in infectious disease management. Outside of work, she enjoys climbing, hiking, and hanging out with her two black cats, Clover and Rune.

Bekah Ballou, CVT

certified veterinary technician and Inpatient shift lead

Tufts Foster Hospital for Small Animals

Bekah Ballou, CVT is a certified veterinary technician and Inpatient shift lead at Tufts Foster Hospital for Small Animals, specializing in mentorship and training. She has over a decade of experience including Shelter Medicine, General Practice, and Inpatient/Emergency and Critical Care in an academic setting. Outside of work she's focusing on finishing her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with a focus on Wildlife Conservation, enjoying the outdoors, or relaxing with a good book and her cat Una.
