APIC and IFIC Fireside Chat: PPE Use in the Care of the Patient with COVID-19
When healthcare systems across the globe began to care for patients with COVID-19 infection, there were many questions about which Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) would be needed to protect healthcare workers and to limit spread of SARS-Cov-2 to other patients and members of the workforce. Fear of the unknown, lack of access to certain supplies, and limited competence of workforce increased the challenges during the pandemic. This webinar will explore the WHO’s teachings for the basic PPE needed for this care, and will give practical examples of its use.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
- Identify appropriate PPE for care of the patient with COVID-19
- Demonstrate safe donning and doffing of this PPE
- Discuss best practices of PPE use related to reuse, storage, and re-processing of PPE
