Welcome to the 2024 January 16-18 Virtual Long-Term Care Infection Preventionist Essentials Connecticut Training!
This virtual course includes two and a half days of live virtual training via Zoom as well as online modules. Please review all the following information carefully to make sure you maximize your learning and earn the certificates of completion at the end.
To earn the Long-Term Care Infection Preventionist Essentials Training Certificate you must do all of the following:
- Complete the 2.5-day live virtual training and post-event evaluation.
- Complete the 11 online modules listed below and achieve 80% on the related knowledge checks to support learning. You have unlimited attempts on the quizzes.
- Score an 80% or higher on the final knowledge review and assessment for the program. You will have unlimited attempts to complete it. Each question comes with a rationale to support your learning.
- NOTE: For Fill-in-the-blank questions, be as simple as possible with your response. For example, if the question is asking for a numerical value, only provide the number, no accompanying text. You will be marked wrong if you provide more than you need to.
- Complete the Post-Course Survey Evaluation for the overall certificate of completion.

APIC’s Learning Management System will track your progress. Once you have completed all of these items, you will be able to download your certificates under the Course Work tab within the “Certificates of Completion” section.
Important notes:
- To earn the certificates of completion, you have up to 90 days after the 2.5-day live virtual training to complete all the requirements above.
- Contact hours: If, for any reason you only complete the live virtual 2.5-day training, you can earn contact hours for the Live Training Certificate only. Once you have earned your contact hours, they can be found in the Course Work tab under the “Certificates of Completion” section.

Technical Issues
Please try the steps below to troubleshoot if your online course work does not load or if you receive an error message:
- We recommend you use Google Chrome as your web browser.
- Make sure your browser is up to date by clicking the ellipsis (top right corner in your Chrome browser) then click Help and About Google Chrome. The browser will automatically update.
- Clear the cache and cookies in your browser.
- Use a private network (ex: home) as opposed to a public network (ex: work, school). Many facilities have pop-up blockers and firewalls turned on to prevent content from loading. You may need to contact your IT department to troubleshoot.

| Janet Riese worked in the infection control field for over 20 years. She served as the Officer of Infection Control/Prevention at the Mary Lanning Healthcare system for 20+years. Since then, she served as a till in for the current IP/EH programs there, assists with audits and med refills in the clinics at MLH, and is a District Representative for the Nebraska Infection Control Network - District V.Janet is also a consultant for APIC. She is a faculty member also for APIC and has taught the EPI and ASC Intensives, LTC, and IC Basics courses. Janet, also, is a reviewer and editor for courses. She has also participated in writing LTC test questions and revising questions for the CIC study course. Janet also consults with CAH and LTCs in Nebraska. She has provides mentoring to new IPs/EH nurses in Nebraska. |
Nancy O'Connor, MBA, BSN, RN, CIC
System Director of Infection Prevention and Employee Health
Cayuga Health System, Ithaca NY
Nancy O'Connor has worked in the Infection Control/Employee Health field and been certified in IP for over 25 years. She has led programs at Hillside Family of Agencies in Rochester, NY, Strong Memorial Hospital/University of Rochester, Salem Health System in Salem, Oregon, Providence Health System in Portland, Oregon (Regional Director of IPC for all Providence healthcare facilities in Oregon) and is currently the System Director of Infection Prevention and Employee Health for Cayuga Health System based in Ithaca, NY.
She is a Registered Nurse and has a wide range of experience in Quality/Performance Improvement, Regulatory Compliance, Patient Safety, Risk Management and has served as a Chief Operating Officer. Nancy has provided a variety of consultation services, including to LTC and hospice facilities. She has been published in The American Journal of Nursing, American Journal of Critical Care, and worked with the CDC and Oregon Health Authority Public Health Division to investigate a COVID outbreak in a rehabilitation center. Nancy has extensive training and experience in implementing Lean/Kaizen models and projects and has a Six Sigma Black Belt.
Her teaching experience includes curriculum writing for the MS Program Inf Infection Prevention and Epidemiology, Great Falls University, Great Falls, Montana, authored and taught IP training courses for Oregon Health Authority, 2016 and 2017 and worked with HANYS (Hospital Association of New York State) as a presenter for APIC certification preparation sessions. Additionally, she has authored and presented IP education at state and national conferences.
Nancy has been an APIC member for many years and has been actively involved as an APIC policy reviewer, served on the APIC National Public Policy Committee and was the Oregon-Southwestern Washington APIC Chapter President. She served as the Chairperson for the Oregon Health Care Acquired Infection Committee from 2010-2014. She returned to Upstate NY after 11 years in Oregon and is currently a member of the APIC Finger Lakes Chapter and is very happy to be back home!
