Welcome to the 2023 November 14 - 16 Virtual Long-Term Care Infection Preventionist Essentials Connecticut Training!

This virtual course includes two and a half days of live virtual training via Zoom as well as online modules. Please review all the following information carefully to make sure you maximize your learning and earn the certificates of completion at the end. 

To earn the Long-Term Care Infection Preventionist Essentials Training Certificate you must do all of the following:

  • Complete the 2.5-day live virtual training and post-event evaluation.
  • Complete the 11 online modules listed below and achieve 80% on the related knowledge checks to support learning. You have unlimited attempts on the quizzes.
  • Score an 80% or higher on the final knowledge review and assessment for the program. You will have unlimited attempts to complete it. Each question comes with a rationale to support your learning. 
    • NOTE: For Fill-in-the-blank questions, be as simple as possible with your response. For example, if the question is asking for a numerical value, only provide the number, no accompanying text. You will be marked wrong if you provide more than you need to. 
  • Complete the Post-Course Survey Evaluation for the overall certificate of completion.

APIC’s Learning Management System will track your progress. Once you have completed all of these items, you will be able to download your certificates under the Course Work tab within the “Certificates of Completion” section. 


Important notes:

  • To earn the certificates of completion, you have up to 90 days after the 2.5-day live virtual training to complete all the requirements above. 
  • Contact hours: If, for any reason you only complete the live virtual 2.5-day training, you can earn contact hours for the Live Training Certificate only. Once you have earned your contact hours, they can be found in the Course Work tab under the “Certificates of Completion” section.

Technical Issues

Please try the steps below to troubleshoot if your online course work does not load or if you receive an error message:

  1. We recommend you use Google Chrome as your web browser.
  2. Make sure your browser is up to date by clicking the ellipsis (top right corner in your Chrome browser) then click Help and About Google Chrome. The browser will automatically update.
  3. Clear the cache and cookies in your browser.
  4. Use a private network (ex: home) as opposed to a public network (ex: work, school). Many facilities have pop-up blockers and firewalls turned on to prevent content from loading. You may need to contact your IT department to troubleshoot.

Hazel I. Findlay

Amy Huff has served her hometown community through her work at Hazel I. Findlay (a Skilled Nursing Facility, or SNF) for more than 30 years. She has fulfilled many various nursing roles during this time. In 2007 she became the Infection Preventionist, but as is the case in many SNFs, she wears several hats. She is active in the local county Emergency Operations Center as the long-term care Liaison, the Regional Medical Response Coalition as the Long-Term Care Workgroup Chairperson, and APIC both at a Chapter and the National level as the Member Secretary and on the National Conference Committee, respectively. She also serves as an APIC Faculty member and has prior experience training new Infection Preventionists. Amy finds it immensely rewarding to be able to mentor new Infection Preventionists.

Linda Behan BSN, RN, CIC

Consultant

Long Term Care Infection Prevention LLC

Linda Behan, BSN, RN, CIC is currently a consultant and President of Long Term Care Infection Prevention, LLC. She served as the Corporate Vice President of Infection Prevention and Control for Genesis HealthCare and has been certified in infection prevention and control since 2011. Linda has presented at APIC Annual Conferences on Antibiotic Stewardship, a Novel Technology to Reduce UTIs and Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis, Enhanced Barrier Precautions to Control Multidrug Resistant Organisms and Infection Surveillance. She is a presenter on infection prevention and control topics for healthcare and other professional associations. Linda was a member of the Technical Expert Panel entitled “The Comprehensive Unit-Based Safety Program (CUSP) for Antibiotic Stewardship.” Linda is a member of the faculty for AHCA’s Infection Preventionist Specialized Training (IPCO), contributing modules on Antibiotic Stewardship in Nursing Homes and Water Management Plans. She served on the APIC Professional Development Committee and the APIC LTC Task Force.  Linda was a subject matter expert for the development of the APIC LTC-CIP certification preparation course.
